Community Engagement

Dr. Kushlan has engaged in a broad range of community engagements in civic and professional organizations, especially through service on professional boards and committees and thorough his philanthropic initiatives.

Currently, he is a board director or trustee of the Everglades Foundation, Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden, and Archbold Biological Station and on advisory committees to BirdLife International and University of Miami College of Arts and Sciences. Previous board service has included American Bird Conservancy, American Ornithologists’ Union, Biscayne Nature Center, Friends of the Everglades, Hawk Mountain Sanctuary, HeronConservation, HistoryMiami Museum, John Cabot University, North American Bird Conservation Initiative, Partners in Flight, Station Biologique de la Tour du Valat, Waterbird Conservation for the Americas, Waterbird Society, Wetlands International, and ZooMiami. He served as chair of HeronConservation, Waterbird Conservation for the Americas, and Zoo Miami Foundation, vice-chair of the board of trustees of John Cabot University, and president of American Ornithologists’ Union, Biscayne Nature Center, and Waterbird Society.
